Motor Yacht or Sailing Yacht? How to Choose the Right Boat

1. Define Your Needs Clearly: Before starting to select a boat, I ask myself the following questions:

  • How many people are in our group?
  • What are our expectations from the holiday? (relaxation, entertainment, exploration)
  • Is comfort or budget the priority? The answers to these questions directly determine the type of boat. For example, I prefer a gulet for a more sociable and economical plan, and a motor yacht for speed and luxury.

2. Make the Right Decision on Boat Type: Each type of boat offers a different experience:

  • Gulet: Spacious living areas and comfort-focused
  • Motor Yacht: Offers fast route changes and high luxury
  • Sailboat: Provides a calmer and more experience-focused voyage. When making my choice, I always prioritise my holiday style.

3. Examine Technical Specifications in Detail: In my professional approach, I always look not only at aesthetics but also at technical details:

  • Number of cabins and layout
  • Air conditioning and generator status
  • Water sports equipment
  • Crew quality. The key point to remember is: comfort is hidden in the details.

4. Budget and Price Transparency: The listed price in boat charter is not always the total cost. That is why I always clarify the following items in particular:

  • Is fuel included?
  • Crew and service fees
  • Marina and mooring costs
  • Food and beverage arrangements. I review the contract in detail to avoid unexpected costs.

5. Company and Reference Check: One of the most critical stages for me is reliability. Just like the boat itself, the service provider determines the experience.

  • I review previous client feedback
  • I request actual photographs
  • I never proceed without a written contract. A professional company is always transparent and accessible.

6. Route and Season Planning: I evaluate the boat selection together with the route, as not every boat may be suitable for every route.

  • I book early during peak season
  • I consider off-season alternatives for a calmer experience
  • I take wind and sea conditions into account. According to my approach, the right charter boat selection is possible through needs analysis, technical evaluation and reliable partnership. Planned and informed choices, rather than rushed decisions, transform a holiday into an unforgettable experience. My personal principle: choosing a boat is not just a booking — it is the most important investment that forms the foundation of the experience.
